The hospitality partners behind Caprice Holdings in London – owners of restaurants Le Caprice, the Ivy, 3 Sheekey, Daphne’s, BamBou, Rivington, Urban Caprice and Scott’s – have been sniffing around town to find a perfect spot for Caprice Manhattan. Insiders here say they are especially interested in a hotel space. Caprice emissaries have taken the faint pulse of Robert de Niro’s Ago in the Greenwich Hotel and checked out Country in the Carlton. Town at The Chambers just west of Fifth Avenue on 56th would be perfect, they’ve said. But the constant rumors that have chef-partner Geoffrey Zakarian willing or eager to abandon Town and Country for other projects do not resonate with him. He says he’s not going anywhere. The Caprice group is led by Des McDonald, who brought Signature restaurants into the group in 1999. In 2007 Caprice merged with the Birley Group, a liaison of five exclusive private clubs just minutes away from each other in Mayfair: the lengendary Annabel’s, Mark’s Club, Harry’s Bar, Bath & Racquets and George. Desmond also runs the clubs.
